International Travel Information

Visa

IDWeek is registered as an international meeting with the International Visitors Office. We strongly recommend that international attendees begin the visa application process as early as possible, ideally at least three to four months before the meeting. Some U.S. consulates may experience backlogs in scheduling visa interviews, so early planning is crucial.

To determine the type of visa you may need, we recommend using the Visa Wizard on the U.S. Department of State’s website. If you are eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), you may not need to apply for a visa, but you must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). More information can be found on the Visa Waiver Program page.

Global BugHub Stage

IDWeek is looking for presentations that touch on your experience of working in infectious diseases and presentations that ultimately lead to a greater understanding of our diverse field. Submissions for the Global Stage should resonate with global narratives and encourage presentations in a variety of languages. Talks will be 20 minutes in length and don’t require a PowerPoint presentation. Presentations will be selected by IDWeek leadership.

Applications are due June 25.

Notifications will be sent on Aug. 7.

Travel Preparation Tips

  • Consult Official Travel Guidance: Review travel advisories issued by your country of citizenship and/or residence, as well as other trusted official sources.
  • Seek Legal Advice if Necessary: If you have specific questions or concerns about your visa, immigration status, or rights at the border, consider consulting with an immigration attorney familiar with U.S. entry procedures.
  • Understand U.S. Border Screening Practices: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers may question travelers about the purpose of their trip. Ensure that the information you provide in your visa and immigration documents accurately reflects the purpose of your travel.
  • Be Mindful of Digital Content and Social MediaCBP officers may review publicly available content, including social media, to verify visa status or travel intent. Ensure your online presence aligns with the stated purpose of your visit.
  • Travel Smart with Electronic DevicesWhile it’s uncommon for CBP to inspect travelers’ electronic devices, consider traveling with only essential devices and limiting sensitive personal or professional data stored on them.
